I'm sure everyone knows by now that Genndy Tartakovsky is the director of Hotel Transylvania, a movie that was just released today.
Last night, Genndy was doing an AMA on Reddit
, meaning he basically had an online meet-and-greet. Now, a few things are confirmed.
1. Genndy is interested in bringing Dexter's Rude Removal with him the next time he makes a public appearance. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS, SHAME. Google it. It's a pretty big deal.
The next one is huge. Most commenters were asking about Samurai Jack. Genndy said that funds and marketing were his obstacles, and if Hotel Transylvania does well, it will greatly improve his chances of doing a Jack movie. He seems very intent on having a movie for Jack, which is evident in both his public appearances and his replies.
Now, there have already been a few interviews about it. Apparently the head of Sony is interested in talking to Genndy about doing a Jack movie IN 2D and LETTING HIM CONTROL IT. Don't you think if Hotel Transylvania does well, he'll have a much better chance of convincing someone to let him make the Jack movie?
I'm not saying there's any guarantee here. Frankly, with a resume like Genndy's--PPG, Dexter, Samurai Jack, Clone Wars, SBT, and more--it's mind-blowing that he doesn't already have this in the bag. However, times are hard, and money really is a language. By going to see this new movie of Genndy's, you are not only going to see something that's gonna be fucking superb, you are letting the world know that this is what you want, that you want Genndy to make MORE movies. You are, quite literally, casting a vote in favor of getting a Jack movie, versus not showing support by ignoring this film.
This is one of our only chances. Going to see this movie is going to help Genndy land another project. It's also going to entertain us AND help us get closer to a Jack feature film. There's no reason to skip out on this whatsoever. If there's any possibility you can go today through sunday, by all means please do! Help make the opening weekend a good one!
